Jesuit Centre Zoom Book Club - Wednesdays @ 7pm
Our next BJC Online Book Club read will begin on Wednesday 18th March, and we will be exploring I Want You to Be: On the God of Love by the renowned Czech priest, theologian, philosopher and Professor of Sociology, Tomáš Halík.
This is the second of Halík’s works we have taken up together, following the rich conversations sparked by our previous reading of The Afternoon of Christianity, and the unforgettable privilege of welcoming Halík himself to join us on the evening we finished the book. His presence and insight left a deep impression on many of us, and we look forward to continuing the journey with another of his profound and hope‑filled texts.
About the Book
In I Want You to Be, Halík reflects on the nature of love; not as sentiment or abstraction, but as the very heart of Christian faith and the ground of authentic human encounter. Drawing on theology, philosophy, and lived experience, he invites readers into a deeper understanding of God as the One who desires our flourishing and calls us into courageous, compassionate relationship with the world.
The book is both intellectually stimulating and spiritually accessible, offering a gentle but compelling challenge to see faith as an act of trust, openness, and hospitality.
About the Author
Tomáš Halík is a Catholic priest, sociologist, and professor at Charles University in Prague. A leading voice in contemporary Christian thought, he is known for bridging faith and culture, dialogue and doubt, contemplation and public engagement. His work has been translated into numerous languages and has received international recognition, including the Templeton Prize.
Join Us
Whether you are returning from our last Halík journey or joining for the first time, you are warmly welcome to join us for this journey.
We look forward to another season of thoughtful reading, honest conversation, and shared discovery.

Candlelit Mass at St Patrick's, Donegall St. - Sundays @ 6pm
Eucharist means ‘Thanksgiving’, and it is about connecting with the light that is Christ in our lives; it’s a message of hope and joy.
Meditative chant creates a reverent atmosphere in which you can really pray.
This may be the first time you have set foot in a church in a long time and so it is important to know that everyone is welcome.
The invitation is simple: to experience a place of light and peace, with an uplifting message. This is a moment of Christ centred encounter where countless seeds of hope are sown.
Saint Patrick’s is a beautiful and historic church, located in Belfast’s cultural and social heartland, the Cathedral Quarter. Right beside the new Ulster University Belfast campus.

Faith & Film: Silence (2016)
Faith & Film: Silence (2016)
Our next Faith & Film gathering invites you into the world of Martin Scorsese’s Silence—a profound meditation on faith, suffering, and the search for God in the midst of persecution.
Set in 17th‑century Japan, the film follows two young Jesuit missionaries who embark on a dangerous journey to support hidden Christian communities and to find their missing mentor.
The film raises searching questions about discipleship, integrity, and the mystery of God’s presence in silence.
After the screening, we’ll offer a gentle, guided conversation for those who wish to stay.
