New Book Club Read — I Want You to Be: On the God of Love

Our next BJC Online Book Club read will begin on Wednesday 18th March, and we will be exploring I Want You to Be: On the God of Love by the renowned Czech priest, theologian, philosopher and Professor of Sociology, Tomáš Halík.

This is the second of Halík’s works we have taken up together, following the rich conversations sparked by our previous reading of The Afternoon of Christianity, and the unforgettable privilege of welcoming Halík himself to join us on the evening we finished the book. His presence and insight left a deep impression on many of us, and we look forward to continuing the journey with another of his profound and hope‑filled texts.

About the Book

In I Want You to Be, Halík reflects on the nature of love; not as sentiment or abstraction, but as the very heart of Christian faith and the ground of authentic human encounter. Drawing on theology, philosophy, and lived experience, he invites readers into a deeper understanding of God as the One who desires our flourishing and calls us into courageous, compassionate relationship with the world.

The book is both intellectually stimulating and spiritually accessible, offering a gentle but compelling challenge to see faith as an act of trust, openness, and hospitality.
